Four senior practitioners will share perspectives on how nonprofit boards are failing and provide helpful, practical insight on helping boards succeed. You’ll leave prepared with steps to strengthen your board. Topics will include techniques to build your board, board decision making, developing financial competency beyond the finance committee and planning for growth. Who Should Attend: Volunteers or staff members at non profit organizations who seek to improve governance practices and fundraising results. Presenters:
Laura Gassner Otting founded the Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group in 2002 and has served as the senior vice president of ExecSearches.com and a vice president at Isaacson, Miller. Laura was a presidential appointee for the White House Office of National Service. She holds a M.A. in Political Management from the George Washington University and a B.A. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. She has served on several non-profit boards and is the author of Change Your Career: Transitioning to the Nonprofit Sector.
Lori Rutter is President of Adviza Consulting which she founded in 2004 after creating, building and selling a 35 person consulting firm. Lori has 20 years of experience in the nonprofit, private, and public sectors with a focus on entrepreneurial approaches to managing organizational growth and change. Lori has a Masters degree in Public Policy from the Kennedy School an AB from Harvard College. She currently sits on several for profit and nonprofit boards. Jennifer A. Lammers is a Trainer and Management Consultant whose areas of focus include accountability, governance, financial communication, and ethics. She has created and delivered dozens of nonprofit specific accounting, budgeting and management trainings for non-profits in a wide range of fields. She helped launch the Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP) program, through which hundreds of nonprofit professionals have received intensive financial and accounting instruction.
Ken Phillips is the founding partner of Organization Futures LLC, a consultancy in strategic planning, financial sustainability and organization development for nonprofits. He has 25 years of practical experience managing, leading and getting results for nonprofits and 15 years of experience in consulting and training in strategic planning. Ken is a frequent presenter at conferences in the US and abroad. Based on 40 years of work with nonprofits, he is now writing “Why American Charities are Failing in Their Mission.”
